The Reasons Behind Abdominal Fat :



#1) Hormones : Oestrogen hormone is responsible to a great extent for gaining belly fat. The level of Oestrogen reduces during pregnancy causing fat to accumulate around stomach in preparation of breastfeeding. This hormone also causes fat centre around hips and thighs.

#2) Pregnancy : Accumulation of fat in the stomach area is vital during pregnancy as it protects the baby. The increase in the level of fat storage is responsible for weight gain during pregnancy. What is worrying to note is that about half of the body fat is centred around stomach during pregnancy. Unfortunately, many women find it very difficult to lose this fat even after one year of giving birth.

Researchers have shown that women who gain more than 15 Kg of weight during pregnancy tend to become heavier by about 6 to 9 Kg even after one year of delivery of the baby. Unfortunately, it's this fat, that most women find it tough indeed to shed.

Excessive weight gain during pregnancy not only increases chances of pre-clampsia, gestational diabetes, backpain, fatigue, breathing difficulty and many more but also causes ugly stretch mark even after a considerable period  of pregnancy.

#3) Genetic/Hereditary Factor : This is the factor which causes men to suffer from baldness or V-shaped hairline after 35 or 40 years of age, women to gain weight specially in the upper arm, thighs or around tummy during pregnancy and also suffer from typical 'female type' baldness. This factor is almost inevitable and is unavoidable.

Our food habits play a crucial role in deciding what should be our body weight. Habits of consumption of alcohol, soft drinks, weakness for fast & spicy food all add to gain weight  whether during pregnancy or during normal times.

#1) Diet : 
Needless to say, you are eating for two during pregnancy. Still never indulge  yourself to eat too much or eat mindless during pregnancy. Try to eat foods rich in proteins, calcium and vitamins but low in fat. Lots of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, egg, fish and meat such as chicken work a wonder for you.

These days experts always insist on avoiding read meat such as mutton, beef and ham to keep blood free from cholesterol and keep heart strong & healthy. Pregnant women should also avoid shark, marlin, swordfish. Best attempts should be made to avoid oily fish  such as salmon, trout as they contain harmful chemicals such as dioxins.

Diet must also include sufficient fibre as it helps improve digestion, add weight to stool and helps relieve postpartum constipation. Keeping 20 to 25 gms of fibre in daily diet is a wise decision as it lets you burn belly fat more easily. Keep a habit of eating foods rich in folic acid, vitamins and minerals such as spinach, sprouts, pulses, broccoli and breads

As has been said above 'stress' is a key factor to gain those ugly fat as the body starts producing 'cortisol' leading to more fat especially in the stomach and hip.
